Foot Pain – Bunion
Normal foot picture and X-Ray.
Bunion is a protrusion of bone or tissue around a joint. It is bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It forms when your big toe pushes against your next toe, forcing the joint of your big toe to get bigger and stick out. The skin over the bunion might be red and sore. Wearing tight, narrow shoes might cause bunions or make them worse.
Before taking or steroid shots and surgery, you should, like many in the medical community, consider acupuncture.
The reasons for acupuncture besides effectiveness of reducing inflammation are:
1) it is minimal invasive when compared with steroid shots and surgery. Acupuncture needle is as fine as your hair thin. And about 1 or half inch long. You barely see any mark after needles are removed.
2) it has no side effect generally
3) it does not need recovery time like steroid shot and surgery 6 to 8 weeks.
4) it is very economical compared with surgery which normally runs about $30K.
5) it has no scars left. and it can be retaken if needed.
6) it is not that painful as steroid shots and surgery.
7) bunion can regrow again. So acupuncture is better solution than surgery to tackle continuous inflammation foot pain.
After acupuncture, you generally will reduce pain and the color of affected area is less red and swollen. However, acupuncture is not all solution. To have long term solution for bunion, acupuncture must combine with the other efforts such as 1) using wider shoes. 2) have padding to correct overlapping of toes, 3) have fixture(bunion bootie/splint/corrector) to keep big toe in correct position.
Acupuncture is also very helpful to treat other types of foot pain like bone spurs (an abnormal growth on the heel bone); corns (callous growths that develop on the top of toes); plantar fasciiti, neuromas (a buildup of tissue in the nerves running between the long bones of the foot); or hammertoes (condition causing the middle joint of the toe to poke out) etc.
Regarding to foot pain, the most common cause of foot pain is improper foot function or poor posture. However, other factors can cause (or lead to) foot pain. Footwear can worsen and, in some cases, produce foot problems. Shoes that are too tight, for instance, can increase pressure and stress, while shoes that are too loose can let the foot slide and rub, creating friction. Overuse and exercise-related problems can also cause foot pain. Therefore, you might think about ways to improve outside conditions to alleviate foot pain.
