According to NCCIH (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health) of NIH (National Institutes of Health), Antioxidants are man-made or natural substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. They are derivatives with Chemical means. Scientific research has not shown antioxidant supplements to be beneficial in preventing diseases. Examples of antioxidants include vitamins C and E, selenium, and carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Even though diets high in vegetables and fruits, which are good sources of antioxidants. But we cannot say antioxidants is vegetables or fruits. Same logic is true that Chinese herbs may have antioxidants, but Antioxidants are not Chinese herbs. Besides measuring of their function are different. Antioxidants might be an extension of Chinese herbs/medicine, but cannot be Chinese medicine.
A Nobel Prize winner, Youyou Tu, discovered Artemisinin, a drug that has significantly reduced the mortality rates for patients suffering from Malaria. Even though Artemisinin came from Chinese herbs which formula is used to treat Malaria, we cannot say use of Artemisinin is all Chinese Medicine as it is not used main stream of its treatment theory. It came from Chinese Medicine. And it is an extension of Modern Chinese Medicine.
