Reduced range of elbow motion can make it difficult to perform even simple tasks. With a stiff elbow, it is difficult to bend or straighten your elbow, turn your palm up (to wash your face), comb hair or turn the palm down.
It was said that stiff elbow is caused by inflammation and arthritis. Sometimes it is not. Some patients get into such situation just because of emotional distress/trauma.
I treated a patient around 60’s who suffered stiff elbow (at 90 degree) and frozen shoulder for one year. This is a rare case as most of people has only frozen shoulder or stiff elbow separately. She has seen many doctors and PTs before came to see me. Till now after eight visits or four weeks acupuncture and acupressure session, her frozen shoulder around 80 percent recovered. ROM of shoulder front to vertical about 80 degree. Lateral movement about 100 degree. Elbow can extend to 160 degree.
