Some of medical publications describe frozen shoulder is commonly caused by inflammation of synovial tissue or thickening of synovial fluid or frozen shoulder occurs mainly in middle-aged people who have a history of shoulder injuries.
However, in my practice, frozen shoulder are caused by not use of shoulder joints due to various reasons. Some patients had surgery followed with heart attack or arm surgery which restrict their daily shoulder movement. Some patients experienced depression. Before they realized, the shoulder no longer is able to move or rotate.
In some cases, the pain associated with frozen shoulder may be severe enough to disturb a person’s sleep; in others, patients does not feel much discomfort but their shoulder is just difficulty moving and rotating. It would be a challenge to live with just one moving shoulder posing difficulty in daily life similar as people with stroke and paralyzed limb.
Frozen shoulder normally can be treated by acupuncture and acupressure. Acupuncture is non-invasive nature therapy. Depending on the time that the shoulder is “frozen”, the time to heal can be varied from 6-8 visits to couple of months visits.
